We thought what better way to get to know us better than by introducing the UniMate family, giving you a quick run-down of who we are as well as what we’re all about and showing you how we’ve been working hard over the last few months in order to create an amazing app. Here’s CEO Charlotte on how she came up with the idea and an insight into her life.
So Charlotte, tell us a little bit about yourself!
Born (and mostly bread) in London but I'm actually half French and half Australian - I know, it’s a bit of an odd mix. I’ve just started my masters at King’s College in London (or more so in my room thanks to Covid-19…). I did my undergrad degree in Leeds and absolutely loved my time there, even though it was cut short! Other than that I’m a bit of a film and book geek but also like a good night out with mates!
What’s UniMate and what does it do?
UniMate is an app for University students that helps them log their grades, keep track of how they’re doing but also predict what marks they need to get to reach their desired degree classification. It makes a really complex problem students are constantly faced with really easy and straightforward.
How did you come up with such an interesting concept?
I came up with this idea during my final year when I was desperately trying to figure out what classification I was going to graduate with and nothing out there was cutting it for me. I tried different websites and ended up having to do loads of calculations myself (which I wasn’t even convinced were right…). At that point I just really wanted a simple app that could solve it all for me which is how I came up with UniMate.
What are your dreams and hopes for UniMate?
The dream is that UniMate becomes students’ go to app across the country! But more so I’m just hoping that students really see the benefit of what we have to offer and that UniMate can really help them out, whether that be by pushing them to do better or being reassured they are on track with their grades.
What’s your favourite part of being a student?
The amount of time you get to spend with your friends! From the people I lived with to the people I worked with, I was constantly surrounded by friends - it made the whole experience all the more enjoyable.
Are you a dog or cat person?
Considering that my only flatmate has been a cat for the last 3 months, it would be rude for me to go with dog… so cat.
What’s your favourite student night out?
Anyone who’s met me once should be able to answer that question… Fruity all the way.
Terrace or Old bar?
Considering I worked in Terrace and still spent most of my free time there, it’s a no-brainer.
What’s something you did over lock down?
I spent a lot of time hand making Leeds themed board games… don’t even ask why.
Well there you have it - a Fruity-loving, Master’s student who simply wanted to figure out her final year classification hassle-free amidst a pandemic. As a team of students, we hope that this little insight into Charlotte’s life and the birth of the UniMate concept helps you have a better understanding of what drives us. We’re tirelessly working on the app but love that we can share what we’re doing with you guys and have you get to know better. UniMate will be launching soon so follow us on our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook in order to stay up to date and get sneak-peaks of behind the scenes.
